Services That Make Daily Life Easier

At Crater District Area Agency on Aging, we are here to support you with services that bring comfort, care, and connection.

Whether it’s a helping hand at home, a ride to the doctor, or simply someone to talk to, our programs are designed to make life easier and more joyful. If you're 60 or older and live in our service area, you are already part of our community. And if you don’t see what you need here, just give our Senior Helpline a call at 804-732-7020—we are always happy to help.

Homemaker

Our Homemaker Program provides in-home assistance with daily tasks to help older adults live safely and comfortably in their own homes. Services may include light housekeeping, laundry, meal preparation, and other routine chores.

This program supports independence while giving peace of mind to families and caregivers.

Care Coordination

Professional management and organization of health, social, and community services tailored to meet the unique needs of older adults. This includes assessing needs, developing care plans, connecting individuals with appropriate services, monitoring outcomes, and adjusting care as needed.

Case Management

Case management empowers older adults to take an active role in their care, supporting independence through personalized guidance, outreach, and thoughtful assessment of individual needs.

Legal Services

We offer limited legal services—wills, powers of attorney, medical directives, and notary support—at no cost. While not required, donations are always appreciated.

Nutrition

At Crater, our Nutrition Program is dedicated to reducing food insecurity among seniors in our community. We provide not only nourishing meals but also valuable health and nutrition education, supporting both homebound individuals and those who attend our senior centers.

We believe that every senior deserves access to wholesome food, trusted guidance, and the dignity of living well.

Transportation

Our Transportation Department is proud to offer safe, reliable rides to medical appointments and community activities. Transportation is available for a small fee based on your income, and we are happy to provide door-to-door service for your convenience.
We also support our senior citizens with rides to senior centers and other local events—helping you stay active, connected, and independent.

Health Education

We offer engaging programs designed to inform, empower, and support older adults in living healthier, safer lives. From wellness workshops to safety tips, our goal is to provide the knowledge and tools seniors need to thrive—physically, mentally, and emotionally—across the Crater District.

Senior Medicare Patrol

Virginia Senior Medicare Patrol’s mission is to empower and assist Medicare beneficiaries, their families, and caregivers to prevent, detect, and report health care fraud, errors, and abuse through outreach, counseling, and education.

Navigating Medicare can feel overwhelming, but you don’t have to do it alone. The VICAP program offers free, one-on-one support from certified counselors who provide clear, unbiased guidance. Whether you are exploring your insurance options or need help applying for benefits, we are here to make the process easier and more reassuring, at no cost to you.

Ombudsman

The Ombudsman advocates for seniors in nursing homes, assisted living, and long-term facilities —offering guidance, support, and a voice to help resolve care concerns and protect their rights.

Virginia Voucher Program

The Virginia Lifespan Respite Voucher Program (VLRVP) provides reimbursement vouchers to Virginia caregivers for the cost of temporary, short-term respite care provided to individuals of any age, with a documented disability or medical condition. Our Caregiver Support Coordinator can help you fill out the application.

Respite Care for Caregivers

Our respite program offers temporary, in-home relief for family members caring for older adults or individuals with disabilities. Caregivers can take a much-needed break while their loved ones receive safe, compassionate support at home, ranging from companionship and personal care to help with daily tasks. This service is designed to reduce stress, support caregiver well-being, and prevent burnout.

CHORE Program Services

The CHORE program provides assistance to individuals who experience difficulty performing one or more instrumental activities of daily living, specifically heavy housework, yard work, or sidewalk maintenance. This support helps older adults and those with disabilities maintain a safe and clean living environment, promoting independence and quality of life.
